Receta para Chicha Light

• Licúa 1 taza de arroz integral crudo.

• Ponlo a hervir con 8 tazas de agua y 1 ramita de canela por 2 horas o hasta que la mayoría del agua se haya absorbido.

• Colocar el arroz en la licuadora de nuevo y agregar 1 taza de leche descremada, un poquito de canela en polvo, 1/2 taza de leche evaporada, un chorrito de vainilla y edulcorante al gusto (aprox. 10 sobres de Splenda).

• Licuar todo.

• Servir con hielo, leche condensada y canela al gusto.

Chicha Light recipe

• Blend 1 cup of uncooked brown rice.

• Boil the blended rice with 8 cups of water and 1 cinnamon stick for 2 hours, or until most of the water is absorbed.

• Place the rice in the blender again and add 1 cup of skim milk, a little bit of cinnamon powder, 1/2 cup of evaporated milk, a dash of vanilla and sweetener to taste (approx. 10 individual packets of Splenda).

• Blend it all together.

• Serve with ice, cinnamon and condensed milk to taste.

The origin of arepas / El origen de las arepas

  Despite its consumption is very popular in countries like Colombia and Panama, the arepa is the gastronomic reference when talking about Venezuela. It's a kind of bread made of ground corn or pre-cooked cornmeal that tastes incredible with any ingredient that it's filled with. The first consumption register ever made dates back to 1539; it was consumed by the natives of these territories long time before the arrival of Spanish conquistadors to South America.

  In earlier times it would take hours or even days to process the corn just to enjoy a fresh arepa in the morning; but it was in 1960 when Empresas Polar launched the pre-cooked corn flower P.A.N. to the market under the slogan "the long corn-process is over!", registering a total sale of 5280 kilos the first day.

 Their market strategy consisted in training a group of women to teach housewives to prepare arepas faster with the new pre-cooked cornmeal, and at the same time, they were responsible of teaching other people so the tradition could be passed to new generations.

  Nowadays the arepa is not only enjoyed on the tables of Venezuelan homes, but in many other countries. It has been intertionalized and decreed as "the best breakfast in the world" during the first quarter of 2014.

   Aunque su consumo es popular en países como Colombia y Panamá, la arepa es la primera referencia gastronómica al hablar de Venezuela. Es una suerte de pan hecha a base de maíz molido o harina de maíz precocida que resulta deliciosa con cualquier ingrediente con el que se rellena. El primer registro de consumo data del año 1539; ésta era consumida por los aborígenes de dichos territorios mucho antes de la llegada de los españoles a América del Sur.

  En épocas anteriores se debía pasar horas e incluso días pilando el maíz para poder disfrutar de una arepa fresca por la mañana; pero fue en 1960 cuando Empresas Polar lanzó al mercado la harina de maíz precocido P.A.N. (Producto Alimenticio Nacional) bajo el eslogan "¡Se acabó la piladera!", registrando un total de ventas de 5.028 Kg el primer día de lanzamiento.

  Su estrategia de mercado consistió en entrenar mujeres para que salieran a enseñar a las amas de casa para preparar arepas rápidamente con la nueva harina de maíz, y estas a su vez fueron las encargadas de pasar esta tradición a otras generaciones.

  Hoy en día no solo se disfrutan las arepas sobre las mesas de los hogares venezolanos: ésta se internacionalizó y atravesó fronteras para quedarse. Por ésta y muchas razones más nos enorgullece que haya sido decretada como "mejor desayuno del mundo" durante el primer trimestre del 2014.

Angel Fall / Salto Ángel

   The Angel Fall is located in the highlands of Guayana, one of the five regions of Venezuela. A huge water column that gushes furiously from the imponent rock wall of the Auyantepui, falls with a deafening sound and disappears into a dense mist of water before reaching the Churun river. It's the highest waterfall of the world: with 979 meters of altitude, of which 807 are continous decline, while the rest are small water breaks equally impressive.

  The waterfall is located in Canaima National Park, which is spread over 3 million hectares in south-eastern Venezuela along the border between Guayana and Brazil, in Bolivar state. It was declared "National Park" on june 12 of 1962 by the National Government and a "World Herritage Site" by UNESCO on 1994. In the XXI century, the Angel Fall was one of the 28 finalists in the election of the seven natural wonders of the world.

  This fall is named after the adventurous American aviator Jimmy Crawford Angel, who saw the waterfall for the first time in 1933 accompanied of his couple while they were searching for the legendary Gold River or the Golden City.

   The fascinating Canaima National Park is the perfect combination of magic and reality, conformed by impressive mountains called Tepuyes, innumerable rivers, lakes, waterfalls, forests and savannahs that extend like a green sea. Everyone should visit this place at least once in their lives.

  It's the most antique place on Earth. Time and nature make of this place something special and it gives to its visitors the opportunity to interact with nature in a direct and real way.

   El Salto Ángel está situado en las tierras altas de Guayana, una de las cinco regiones de Venezuela. Una enorme columna de agua que brota furiosamente de la imponente pared de roca descarnada del tepuy Auyantepuy cae con un ensordecedor bramido y desaparece entre una densa bruma de agua pulverizada antes de alcanzar el río Churún. Así es el Salto Ángel, la cascada más alta del mundo con sus 979 metros de altitud, de los cuales tan solo 807 son caída continua, mientras que el resto son pequeños saltos de agua igualmente impresionantes.

  La cascada se ubica en el Parque Nacional Canaima, el cual cuenta con 3 millones de hectáreas y está ubicado en el suroeste de Venezuela, en el estado Bolívar. Fue declarado "Parque Nacional" el 12 de junio de 1962 y "Patrimonio de la Humanidad" por la UNESCO en 1994. En el siglo XXI, el Salto Ángel fue uno de los 28 finalstas en la elección de las siete maravillas naturales del mundo.

 Esta caída debe su nombre al aventurero aviador estadounidense Jimmy Crawford Angel, quien vio la cascada por primera vez en 1933 junto a su pareja mientras realizaba la búsqueda del legendario Río de Oro o la Ciudad Dorada.

  El fascinante mundo del Parque Nacional Canaima es la perfecta combinación de magia y realidad, conformado por impresionantes montañas llamadas Tepuyes, innumerables ríos, lagos, cascadas, bosques y sabanas que se extienden como un mar verde. Este entorno requiere una visita al menos una vez en la vida.

Isla Larga - Venezuela

     Isla Larga is located in the coast of Carabobo state and is one of the 21 islands that conform Las Aves archipelago. It’s a natural destination that offers to its visitors the whitest sand and the most quiet and crystalline waters of the coast, ideal to release the stress of the city.

    The island also offers a wide variety of marine life and beautiful corals around Sesostris, a German freighter that sunk in 1940. This artificial reef hosts a big part of the fauna, making it an excellent place for scuba diving and snorkeling.

    Another activity for visitors is to walk it from end to end, as it will serve to exercise and rejoice in this marine setting. Weekdays are ideal to visit this natural paradise because there is not much flow of people, so the bay can be enjoyed much better.

    There are some beach houses along the bay that can be hired in case that visitors want to settle comfortably.

      Isla Larga está ubicada en las costas del estado Carabobo y es una de las 21 islas que conforman el archipiélago Las Aves. Es un destino natural que ofrece a sus visitantes la arena más blanca y las aguas más tranquilas y cristalinas del litoral, ideal para para liberarse del estrés de la ciudad. 

     La isla ofrece también una gran variedad de vida marina y hermosos corales en torno al carguero alemán Sesostris, hundido en 1940 luego de un motín de la tripulación. Este arrecife artificial alberga una gran variedad de fauna marina que lo convierte en un lugar excelente para la práctica del submarinismo y snorkeling. 

    Otra actividad que puede realizar dentro de la isla es caminarla de punta a punta, pues le servirá para ejercitarse y regocijarse aún mejor en este escenario marino. Un día ideal para visitar este paraíso natural es en la semana, pues no hay mucho flujo de visitantes y la bahía se puede disfrutar mucho mejor. 

    A lo largo de la bahía encontrará algunas churuatas que podrá alquilar para así poder instalarse cómodamente.
